Schistosomiasis is a water-borne parasitic disease. It is endemic in
tropical and subtropical countries mainly in Africa and the eastern
Mediterranean region. We report a case of a 37-year-old male who
attended our hospital for terminal hematuria and irritative voiding
symptoms. Schistosoma haematobium eggs were found in his urine
sediment. He underwent transurethral resection of the bladder.
Pathological study confirmed the existence of vesical schistosomiasis.
S. haematobium cases are rarely seen in Turkey. Epidemiological and
clinical significance of S. haematobium has been discussed.
